Receipts from the time Mike Greenlee was Palmer mayor are now linked for the first time.
City auditors, in a memo addressed to the council, stated, “Mr. Greenlee has evidently acknowledged using the city’s charge card for personal reasons.”
Allegations that Greenlee spent taxpayer dollars on strip clubs, bars and ritzy hotels are being backed up by the following documents (a box of which I have obtained):

Well… if Greenlee has any “dignity” left in his “character” he should not seek for re-election. Quoting what he said: “I’ve been in city politics for a long time and have always done what’s best for the community,” said Greenlee, a member of Palmer’s Fundamental Baptist Church. “It’s very difficult to clear your name these days on items that are not factual but continue to be published.”
Let’s see… “I’ve been in city politics for a long time” …. hmmmm… no wonder why you are an expert in politicking instead of looking into the City of Palmer’s more important issues than Personal Vendetta!!! “always done what’s best for the community”???? Like what??? Run off An Excellent Chief of Police who only did his job to the best he could with ‘HONESTY, INTEGRITY & DIGNITY’ … to the point that because YOU and your co-horts(City Mayor/Administrator) could not find anything wrong after investigating him last year and sending him off on forced vacation… YOU changed the employee’s manual to ‘AT WILL’ policy so YOU could terminate him even FOR NO REASON!!! But not to worry any more since the CHIEF already left on his own accord. (BY THE WAY…. FOR ME SCOTT LYNCH IS STILL THE CHIEF OF POLICE AT PALMER because JOHN ZAIDLE only became Chief because he’s OBVIOUSLY been kissing asses. NO EXPERIENCE TO SPEAK OF! LOL)
Also… what about those roads full of holes that’s right along his residence along Jefferson street…. could he not see it and be able to fix it????? This is just one of the issues at City of Palmer… how about floodings in houses, water supply, and such???
PEOPLE OF CITY OF PALMER… WAKE UP!!! WE NEED REFORM!!! WE NEED DECENT PEOPLE WITH HONESTY & DIGNITY TO RUN THIS CITY AND NOT GREENLEE WHO DENIES USING TAXPAYERS’ MONEY EVEN WITH THOSE CLEAR EVIDENCE(RECEIPTS)!!! LOOK WHO’S UNTRUTHFUL… ELLIS COUNTY PRESS OR GREENLEE.. TAKE YOUR PICK!!! And am wondering why Ex-Mayor Wallace is singing a different tune after he determined 10 years back that those expenses incurred by Greenlee was ‘EXPENSIVE’… duhhh!!!
All I can say is…. YOU ARE SO SICKENING GREENLEE!!!! And you claim to be a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church. If all members of that church is like you… I don’t think I will want to be part of that church. By the way, speaking of Fundamental Baptist Church…. I heard from third parties that Diane Drewery, Jeff Vick, Kenneth Bateman, John Templer, et al go to the same church… hmmmm… I WONDER WHY!!!
Anyway… KUDOS TO ELLIS COUNTY PRESS FOR UPHOLDING THE TRUTH… WAY TO GO ECP!!!
So let me get this right? Greenlee was at one point the Mayor of Palmer, he “embezzled” money from the citizens/taxpayers, got caught and the then mayor Wallace Hughey offered him the option of restitution, which he took coupled with the promise of never running for public office again and now he’s a City Councilman and is running again this year for Re-election? Is it just me or is that some of the dumbest justice I’ve ever seen? How could the city be so dumb as to let hoim actually run again and how could the citizens be even dumber and vote for him?!?
I guess as far as Palmer’s concerned, you get what you pay for… and we certainly are getting value out of this one. According to these receipts our council supports; guns, hooters, hotels and weekends away. Where can I sign up… this sounds too easy… LMFAO
So err…. When is his resignation landing on the City Administrators (LOL) desk? Speaking of which what does he do for his paycheck these days? I see roads with holes, flooded ditches that need digging and I’ve heard the water pipes date back to the Romans, except theirs didn’t leak.
The citizens of Palmer must be dealing with the same effects as persons that drank water over long periods of time from Roman water pipes as they were constructed of LEAD!
Just for the record! Once again just another untrue statemnet. Jeff Vick attends the First United Methodist Church in Palmer and is an active member. He serves his time giving back to the lord and to the community. As for the Fundamental Baptist Church, that is a great church. I attended that church in my childhood years. There are alot of good people in that church.
You know it’s really sad that man would stoop so low as to bring in a church and/or a congergation in to politics to slander one man and the church for personal gain. But, with these people let their actions be spoken and let the Lord take care of all the ignorence. If you fill that you would like me to say a personal pray for you, please list you name with your blog.

Jeff, since you are a public official, any affiliation and organization that you’re a member of is open and free game.
In fact, the sentence about Greenlee attending Fundamental Baptist Church was for informative purposes. Had we had information about other organizations, we would have put that in there as well.
Your life becomes an open book when you step into public service; that doesn’t just apply to Greenlee, that applies to everyone.
There was no “slander” based off of the church affiliation, it was simply a matter of facts statement.
You’re running for re-election, Jeff, and I don’t know you personally or politically for that matter, but I would like to know your thoughts and views on issues.
However, you’re making this a personal situation when it’s not. Your church is just as important as your membership in say, the Lions Club or Masonic Lodge (just using examples here), so please don’t feel threatened when one of my reporters mentions that sorta thing.

Information from third parties seems to be a standard reporter tactic for the Ellis County Press. If you claim to be the be all end all for telling the truth, maybe you should spend a little more time checking your information for accuracy. Anyone can just say whatever they want about whatever they want, because unfortunately there are enough idiots out there that believe whatever they read. I am all for the truth being brought into the light, but the tactics that you use are no better than the very things that you persue for your articles. To say that you would not want to attend Fundamental Baptist Church because of someone attending that you do not particularly care for says alot about your character. I believe that Jesus spent all of his time on this earth with the very people that despised him and wanted him dead. Which brings up another thought, last weeks front page report that had the transcript from a court case. Good job Joey in covering up the obscene language on the report. You thought to not use the exact words in your report, but you forgot to black out the words when you inserted the file on the page. It was fun explaining to my kids why the “f” word and the “a” was clearly visible on the front page. Thank you for that teaching opportunity. All I ask is that you do not come into Palmer and try and destroy it like you did Ferris and Midlothian. At least make the effort to check your facts and your sources before you take them to print. The truth needs to be spread but it needs to be the whole truth and not just the parts that sell papers.

I was taught that CHURCH Going People didn’t do bad things. I AM 5th generation Palmer Native! I know who have been members of the Fundamental Church longer than the Greenlees. One was my late grandmother Dallas Fretwell.
The people who are for the truth know the people behind Greenlee It is these people in the background who are the trouble makers. They proclaim to be good Church going people.

Yes you are right… speaking of morals… that is a rare commodity nowadays.. same as character, dignity, honesty, and trustworthiness. You do not know who to trust any more… some even lie to your face and not feeling guilty about it.
Church going people are not necessarily good people… more often than not.. they are the trouble makers… they think that they can do evil Monday thru Saturdays and be an angel on Sundays. They kinda make going to Church like a “license” to commit sin ‘coz they believe they will be forgiven. True… sins can be forgiven… but only if you are sincere and turn away and not do them again… but to do it over and over is something else.
You will be amazed at how some unbelievers/pagans have better character and attitude than the so called “Christians”. They put the name of “Christ” to shame ‘coz of what they are doing. If we believe in “Christ”, we should live what HE teaches everyday… Monday thru Sunday.
Truly… unbelievable how some of these “Church Going People” go around threatening people, following people, and destroying their properties. Not only that, they use their “money” to influence people!!!
Some people are not only crippled in their bodies but they are decaying inside.
Well, one only has to look at the New Testament for the words “iniquity” and “lawlessness” to see that Christianity today — whose theology says we’re not under the law — is that industry of “lawlessness.”
So I don’t see any surprise in how these officials act. They’re just doing what their theology teaches. If they don’t believe in following Biblical law, then what are man-made laws?
If anything, Greenlee’s biggest asset is being a member of Fundamental Baptist Church; it shows the true believers who the lawless ones are.

In my opinion, The Ellis County Press is a good paper. When my daughter was killed in a car accident, two other papers faulted her before they got the true facts. The Press wrote about the accident but did not put the blame on either
driver, and I thank the Press for that. It was hard enough to lose a child in an accident but to add fault doubled the hurt,when we knew Stacy was not to blame. So I don’t think The Ellis County Press lies, And Greg Penny doesn’t lie.
“The Land” you mention as his, is not his. It is his wife’s family, the McClains & Barrons.
So get over it! Greg Won! I don’t like the City of Palmer paying for people to go to strip clubs.

I’ve covered a few Palmer accidents in my career at the Press, and it takes a toll on the paper’s staff.
Just like the hideous child molesters being able to walk on the street that our competitor papers cover for, it’s pretty hard.

And the jury is still out on Greg and on everybody, Red Sanders included (he recently became a city commissioner in Ennis).
