Maypearl Mayor Kelly Jacobson helped his police chief last fall cover up an incident at City Hall in which Megan Gray and I were the only local reporters at the scene. Jacobson ran for city council instead of re-election to the mayoral post on May 9 and lost.
I wonder how that will affect the upcoming trial involving Maypearl Police Dept. Chief Lester Taylor’s alleged attacker. If I were the defense, I would argue that Maypearl voters rejected Jacobson’s questionable actions and cover-up from that event, and his election defeat is proof.
We may never know what all happened in Maypearl that morning when Chief Taylor was at his office at an unusual time of around 5 a.m. No one from the DA’s office wanted to talk to reporters that day, which kinda struck everyone as odd in the press corp (TV, Dallas Morning News, ECP.)
