Question: Who was counting the ballots in Ennis?
With a margin that close (30+ votes), is there someone setting up a recount?

Since the launch of The Ellis County Observer and its sister blogs (located on the tabs at the top of this site) in October of 2005, our page views have reached nearly 500,000.
I receive a weekly report on the statistics ranging from hits and unique visitors.
There should be no question as to who the most influential person in this county is now. Sorry if that sounds ego-driven and self-absorbed, but the numbers are for blogs that aren’t even being updated everyday.

Editor’s Update: BestSouthwestBlog and the Wilmer Public Citizen have the latest election results from the southern Dallas County towns.
There won’t be a run-off in the Wilmer race due to the plurality system in place (but someone correct me if I’m wrong).
Registered sex offender James Brian Sliter, who was endorsed early in the campaign by former mayor Linda Root, came in third with 25 votes.

This over a $48 million bond package that spelled out absolutely zero as to what voters were being asked to approve:
ENNIS ISD
[For] - 1,134 (votes)
[Against] - 1,102
That count was awfully close for a mere $48 million. Wonder if some ballot scrutinizing had anything to do with it? Eh…

Palmer Councilman Mike Greenlee - amid articles such as this and this - was defeated for re-election tonight, along with two women candidates who appeared on his yard signs.
Ovilla’s city council will now have a majority of newcomers, as all three incumbents were defeated for re-election. Included in the winner’s column was Bill Vansyckle, a private investigator.
Red Oak’s school board incumbents all won re-election.
Ennis voters approved wine sales and kicked out recently-arrested incumbent Commissioner Byron Walker, but replaced him with Red Sanders, though the city commission now has two former top cops (Dale Holt being the other) on board. Read all the allegations about Holt here.
Midlothian has a new councilman: Bill Houston (Place 2) and a re-elected Dusty Fryer.
Any more hot-ticket items? Post them.

The Dallas Observer had an article recently about a libertarian Democratic judge who has fathers in paternity suits get DNA testing to see if they really are the father, but there’s a little snag in the “intent” of the Texas Family Code: when the laws were written, they were intended to go after something completely different.
I do believe this is called the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Without being too specific, there is in fact an Ellis County link to this story.
Since there are lawyers who read this blog, could someone point to specific cases in this county of this kinda stuff? Are the laws and agencies really geared against fathers and the innocent?
Special Note: The fact these attorneys general are deliberately misleading folks to sign away their rights via the article’s expose on those “sign-in” sheets makes me wonder if Ellis County doesn’t have a little “fine print” on some of their documents that, if not carefully read, could dissolve certain rights for people.

Libertarian Party gubernatorial candidate Jeff Daiell made a swing through Ellis County yesterday, meeting with local residents and Palmer city officials.

Daiell’s visit to Palmer City Hall was believed to be the first time a gubernatorial candidate has ever visited. He said he’s hoping to build a farm system of Libertarians at city council and school board races in hopes they will become elected to higher office. His strategy is to get the independents to converge behind his candidacy in 2010.

For those new to this site, Sharon Allen has been on a monumental crusade to expose the corruption in Ellis County for allegedly sending her brother to prison - another one of those falsely accused cases. And this time around, according to legal circles, there might be some steam picking up on this locally.
Here’s the latest:
